It was a very good concert. The pieces were all rendered with a lot of bhavam and vigour. The choice of some rare kritis was very refreshing. The AlApanais of bilahari, srIranjani and suruTTi were both done elaborately with a lot of classical phrases.

With Kalpakam mami, there is nothing called a short AlApanai or long AlApanai, she always plays AlApanais which arent ultra short and extra long. They would be to right size and shape with the exact colour of the ragam being presented in full and throughout. This concert was no exception. Be it amrutavarshiNi or sahAnA or bilahari or senjuruTTi or whatever else she chose that day, it was all very classical and moving and touching. The manOdarmam too, is usually measured and given in the right proportions only. The svarams in malahari or bilahari or sriranjani were all very nice and enjoyable.

Sri Ramakrishnan gave a very helpful and commendable support to his guru, and played very well. He shared parts of the AlApanais and gave very matching responses to mami with the neraval and svarams.

The percussionist of the evening did a wonderful job in accompanying in a very accommodating fashion and playing in perfect tandem to the main artist.
