Classical Night, Saarang 2004
Jan 21st
~8:00 pm to ~9:20 pm
Sri. K. Bhaskaran - MullaivAsal chandramouLi - haridwaramangalam pazhanivel - Adambakkam sankar
vAtApi gaNapatim - hamsadwani - MD (S)
gurulEkha - gowri manohari - T
mInAkshi mE mudam dEhi - pUrvikalyANi - MD (RNST)
karuNai dEivamE - sindhubhairavi - Madurai Srinivasan
tillana - danasrI - ST
bAgyAda lakshmi bAramma - srI rAgam - Purandara dAsar
A good concert but the pUrvikalyANi had a lot of hindustani phrases. Though it was way too classical for the normal iitm crowd, he could have played it more better in the opinion of the carnatic freaks.
PS: As i had to leave for sometime in between this what i heard from others.

ADuvomE paLLu pADuvOmE - mANDu - subramaNia bhArathi
tillana - chenchuruti
mangaLam - rAmachandrAya - kurinji - bhadrachalam rAmadAsar
brisk nEranammiti. There was aggresiveness in his swaras during and his sore throat showed up when he reached the high gAndAram during the bEgaDa. dwijAvanti was entertaining. The kalyANi was good but again he showed a lot of aggresiveness in the nEraval swaras (may be just to entertain everybody in the not at all carnatic audience i guess) and by this time the higher shadjam only was bit tough for him to reach. sri.chandramouLi's replys all thro' the concerts where good. After the one hour kalyANi was a entertaining brisk and vibrant half an hour tani (11:45 pm of 21st to 00:15 am of 22nd)(Nice way for Krishna to start celebrating his B'day...) i dont know anything on playing percussion instruments to write more on the tAni which i really enjoyed.
knowing what sri. bhaskaran had played, TMK may be could have avoided another sindhubhairavi. the not so usual kurinji mangaLam ended the concert.
