It was very nice concert. Everything was rendered well. Sri Santanagopalan, as his usualself, was enjoying and singing each piece. Sri Vittal Ramamurthy was very accomodative and played beautifully. The percussion department was exceptionally handled by Sri Durai. He was ably supported by Sri Purushottaman.

The concert began with a short sketch of asAvEri with the not-so-often heard varnam to follow and a short round of kalpanai svarams. The AlApanai of nATTai was nice. The kriti was rendered with a round of neraval and svarams at 'bhAnu kOTi samkAsham pApaharam paramEsham'. The short sketch of Anandabhairavi and the kriti were moving.

The pUrvikalyANi AlApanai was elaborate. The kriti was rendered with neraval and svarams at 'vAraNa paravrdha tApa shamanacana vAsava mukha sura sEvita padayuga'. The short sketch of ravichandrikA was quite inspring. The kriti was rendered with some quick neraval at 'jata gUrci nATaka sUtramunu'.

The aTANA AlApanai was little aggressive, compared to what the ragam is popularly believed to be. That dint make it non-aTANA-ish or not enjoyable. The rare kriti was rendered very nicely with an elaborate round of svarams. The main sAramati AlApanai was done leisurely. It was done showing many vintage sancarams. The kriti was rendered with a round of svarams in kIzh kAlam alone.

The suruTTi AlApanai and tAnam were quite elaborate and very enjoyable. The pallavi was rendered with rAgamAlikA svarmas in quick succession. The Violinst of the day was in full form. His AlApanais were real nice. His short sketch of ravichandrikA was very inspiring. His aTANA and sAramati AlApanais were both as good as the vocalist's elaboration, if not a shade better. His replies during svarams was also nice. His suruTTi and tAnam were real good. His replies for rAgamAlika, with each ragam for just one Avarththanam were real nice.

The mridangist was in full form. The patterns he played for each kriti and sangati were so matching and gelling to the main stream music. The ghatam vidwan played providing good support to the mridangam. The tani was great as well.

Sri Santanagopalan gave a nice concert. All kritis were rendered well. The svarams all nicely patterned. A nice concert. Sri Sundareswaran gave very nice replies and was all the more supportive. The percussion dept was well handled also.

I had to leave during the madhyamAvati main.

The concert started about half an hour late, thanks to traffic, Sri Santanagopalan couldnt reach the venue on time.

The concert began with a short slOkam and the pUrvikalyANi kriti was rendered nicely with a round of neraval and svarams at 'paramAtmuDu jIvAtmuDu padinAlugu lOkamulu' which were rendered well also. The cittaranjani kriti was rendered nicely with a quick round of svarams.

The khamAs kriti was rendered very movingly with neraval and svarams at ' cAru nEtra shrI kaLAtra shrI ramya gAtra'. The AbhOgi kriti was rendered with the necessary vigour.

The rAga AlApanai of the evening was dEvagAndhAri. Sri Santanagopalan made it an elaborate affair and weaved sancarams one after another and gave a very detailed elaboration of the rAgam. The kriti was rendered with a lot of bhavam. One was expecting this to be the main piece of the evening. There was a quick round of neraval at 'nIrajAkSikai nIradhi dATina nI kIrtini vinnAnurA' which was followed by an elaborate series of svarams. This was followed with the vIra vasantam piece.

The main AlApanai of the evening was kIravANi. It began with a punch and was elaborated well, with quite a few not-so-normally heard sancarams. The quick rendition of the kriti was followed by ultrashort neraval at 'bAguga shrI raghu rAmuni padamula' and a round of svarams to follow. All the post tani pieces were good.

Sri Santanagopalan presented a very classical concert which lasted for about 2.5 hours. All his AlApanais were very good. The kritis were rendered well and the neraval and svarams were all good. The kaNakku svarams were sung making nice patterns and thus making them all the more enjoyable. Though his voice wasnt cooperating at some places, Sri Santanagopalan did present a very enjoyable concert.

Sri Srinivasa Rao was good in all depts. His replies to the main artist in all the manodarmam aspects and the following of kritis were all good.

Sri Balaji played with good anticipation for the kritis and sangatis. His playing for the fast and slow pieces were appropriate and added to the renditions. Sri Gopalakrishnan was good thro' the concert. The tani they shared was nice also.
