A wonderful concert. Swarams in kalyANi were beautifully woven. A really wonderful and elaborate rItigauLa with an awesome round of neraval and svarams. Smt. Seetha announced that she had tuned the tarangam to mALavi, since this tarangam is mentioned to be in that ragam in some older books. The varALi was slow and sedate. The kAmbhOji was fantastic and moved all across the raga contours. Gave an ultimate fulfilment. Accompanists were in total unison. A much enjoyable concert.

It was a wonderful concert. With such an unconventional start, and with so many many not-so-often heard kritis, with 4 heavy rAgams elaborated with full justice, with classical music at its pristine pure form, with absolutely matching accompanists, it was a concert to not forget for a long time to come. Each kriti was rendered with absolute bhavam and with all those beautiful sangatis. Each rAga AlApanai was just to the right proportion and filled with the right phrases at the right places. The neraval and svarams were all the way they should have been. The accompanists played as they should have. Giving the perfect accompaniment and replies in their solo versions.

Great Concert.

It was a nice concert. All the items were presented very well. The neraval and svarams at 'kaLamuna sObillu kanakabhUshaNamula' in 'mEru samAna' were good. The rItigauLa AlApanai was really good. The varALi AlApanai, neraval and svarams were good though the kriti was a bit of a let down. The main bhiaravi was rendered very well also. Real good concert by Smt Rajan ably supported by all the accompanists.

This is all i m permitted to type by my aching hand...

The concert started with a brisk rendition of the sAvEri varNam to be followed by the hamsadvani kriti with well structured svarams. The sArangA kriti was rendred with a lot of bhavam.

The first AlApanai of the evening was mukhAri which was done very well. The kriti was rendered with a lot of sAhitya suddham with neraval and svarams at 'kannulAra sEvinchi... '

The next was a long leisurely elaboration of pUrvikalyANi. The choice of the kriti was very apt to the AlApanai that was sung and the song was rendered with a lot of bhavam and not the regular caraNam one gets to hear, but one of the others. The svarams in both kAlam were good. The aTANA short sketch which followed and the kriti were good. The sparkling mEl kAla svarams at the pallavi line for the aTANA kriti were very good.

The hindOLAm kriti was rendered in a good kAlapramANam with a lot of bhavam. The main kAmbhOji AlApanai was good. The kriti was rendered with elaborate neraval and svarams at 'bhUlOka vaikuNTam idiyani'. The highlight of the concert was easily the sahAnA padam. The padam was blissfully rendered showing the raga bhavam very well. After the padam, everything else refused to fall into my ears. The concert was an affair of classism in the fullest. Her manOdarmam and sAhitya suddham are to be appreciated a lot.

The violinst was good. He was sensitive in his replies, though he must keep a watch on his prolonged AlApanais.

The mrudangist was very good and was very good in expecting what comes next. His supportive accompaniment to the main artist and the amazing tani were very good.

The concert started off with a small sketch of tODi followed by the Era nApai varNam in two speeds. The kamalA manOhari kriti that followed was well rendered with beautiful svarams at the pallavi line. Then came a short sketch of shrI rAgam and nAmakusumamulacE was nicely rendered.

The first elaborate piece of the evening was nE pogaDa kuNTE in varALi. The AlApanai was very good and inspiring. The kriti, which is listed as dEsya tODi in some sources, was rendered beautifully with a structured neraval and svarams. The elaborate bEgaDA AlApanai was lovely. There were a lot of sancArams in which every svaram could show the complete form of bEgaDa. The kriti, which was rather a low-profile one for the elaborate AlApanai, was well rendered as well with a brisk padavini to follow.

The rare dIkshitar kriti in dhavalAnga, 49th mELam of the asampUrNa mELam, was next in line. The main sahAnA AlApanai was so good that one is in search of adjectives. The kriti was given full justice and the neraval and korappu svarams in 'da' were nice. The way Smt. Seetha showed the different gamakams on dhaivadham and the special attention on the gandaram, which it warrants, were all true exhibition of vidwat. The purandara dAsa kriti had a few lines from one of his devarnAmAs to preceed it.

Dr. Narmada on the violin, was good, though she had interevened a few gimmicky phrases during her parts of the manOdharmam, which were no match to the main artist. Sri Skandasubramanian on the mrudangam was good all thro' the concert and in the tani, but for a few parts which were quite loud. Sri Murali provided good accompaniment to the conert.

A very fulfuling concert, with a traditional touch, exhibiting quite a few rare kritis.
