It was a cosmic flow of chaste music at Ragasudha when Smt. Sangeetha Sivakumar sang. All the ragams and songs taken up were of the highest order. All ragams chosen were heavy. Some allied and some very close to one another. And yet there were so deftly and ably handled. It was a amritha pravaaham. And with each piece it left the listener puzzled at what could come next and then a much bigger song/ragam would follow. The accompanists Smt. Hemalatha and Sri. Sivaraman were so well adding to the musical experience. On the whole it was a concert to remember for a long time.

An awesome concert. The grand rendition of the varnam in 2 kAlams with the svara sAhityams set-up the mood for a wonderful concert. The bEgaDa kriti was rendered soulfully and with a fitting round of svarams, with a quick umAbaraNam to follow.

The AlApanai of danyAsi was scintillating. The rAga bhAvam was fully intact and shown in great detail. The kriti was rendered wonderfully in a very emotive and meditative fashion. With a soulful and bhAvA laden sahAnA to follow, it was a wonderful to hear the kriti and a round of svarams.

The main course, pUrvikalyANi was so elating and grand. The phrases flowed all over the rasikas and created a certain kind of aura that is rare and few and far apart. The kriti was rendered in a fitting fashion, with a gripping round of neraval and svarams. It was very different and nice to listen to kIzhkAla svarams after the kIzhkAla neraval and the mEl kAlam to come later.

As if all this wasnt enough came the kAmbhOji. As the artists started to humm, one was in mood for a pallavi. The night was still young. However, the grand padam came as a surprise and was rendered in a soulstirring fashion. The paras jAvaLi and suruTTi thiruppAvai eventually led to the inevitable, end of a concert.

The vocalist was in great form and presented everything with a lot of grip and leisure, that added a lot to the overall listening pleasure of the concert. The choices were very classical and so was the presentation. The accompanists were wonderful.

The violinst was great in accompanying and in giving fitting responses. His solo versions of the rAgam and the svarams were all wonderful. The mrudangist played with great anticipation and with a lot of embellishments that made the concert totally much more enjoyable. His tani was nice as well.

A great concert indeed.

It was a wonderful concert. Set in the comfortable drawing room of a home, it was absolutely divine music touching the soul all the way. The renditions of each of the kritis were precisely crisp and sharp with the right measure of feel and emotions thus tickling the senses. The AlApanai of bhUshAvaLi was very good. The classic nATTaikuranji was dealt with leisurely, fitting the mood of the composition. The main tODi was majestic. The choice of compositions was also very good. The neraval and svara parts of the concert were all done well in the right measure. The vocalist made good use of her style with the right measure of gamakkams and brigas to give music that was fulfilling the mind and soul.

The violinst was very good in her responses and matched the main artist at all occasions. Her versions of the rAgA elaborations were very good as well. The mridangist played very well with good anticipation and gelling well with the music. The kanjira vidwan was very sensitive and played very well. The thani was very nice to listen.

I was happy to be part of this concert.

The concert was very nice and pleasing. The svarams in ravicandrika were very good and kept the pep. The kEdAram kriti was very moving. The varALi affair was perfectly presented and neat and good to the ear. The kAmbhOji AlApanai was very elaborate and done in a highly classical fashion. However, one was expecting a heavier kriti. The neraval and svarams were nice also. The sAvEri AlApanai and tAnam were leisurely and rendered very beautifully. The pallavi was rendered with the usual anulOmam and pratilOmam. The svarams were rendered in the mEl kAlam only. A few kalpana svarams in the kIzh kAlam were being missed. Smt Sangeetha's voice was in good shape and she could communicate well with the audience. Sri Murari was good in all parts of the concert. His varALi outshowed the subsequent two AlApanais. Sri Ganapathiraman was very good thro' the concert. His playing for the kEdAram kriti needs a special mention. He was ably assisted by Sri Sethuraman. Their tani was nice also.

The kriti with neraval and svarams was well rendered. The karnATaka kApi AlApanai was a nice surprise as well. It was done in a scholarly fashion. The main kAmbhOji AlApanai was done well, with many phrases reminding of MLV's renditions. The kriti was rendered with nice round of neraval and svarams. Had to leave during the nIlAmbari.

The short skech of mALava gaULa gave a good start. The kriti was rendered nicely with neraval and svarams at 'kamalA gaurI vAgIsvarI vidhi'. The bEgaDa AlApanai was very nicely rendered by Smt Sangeetha. Sri Shriram Kumar's reply was amazing. The kriti was rendered with quick round of svarams. The husEni kriti was nice. The main tODi AlApanai was extensive by the vocalist and the violinst. The kriti couldnt get heavier. It was rendered with all its grandeur, with neraval and svarams at 'alanADu kanakakashipu niNDAru'. The nIlambari piece was nicely rendered as well. The ghaNTA mangaLam was good and a welcome change, from the usual saurAshTram piece.

Smt Sangeetha gave a very classical concert with pieces which are quite endangered in concert circuits. Sri Shriram Kumar was good in all parts and gave good support. Sri Subramanian was aggresive from the beginning. Sri Karthick was good. The tani was short and had only catusra naDai and a 8 Avarththana kOrvai.

I reached the concert late, while she was singing varALi. The varALi was good. One kept wondering as to why she directly started singing mel kala svarams in varALi. The answer came with a long elaborate very enjoyable and carefully structured 15 minute bhairavi alapanai. The kriti and the neraval svarams at 'vatsamu' were very good. The concert was well planned and she did a good job.

The violinst was good all thro' and so was the mrudangist in providing sensible accompaniment all thro' the concert.
