A beautiful concert. The varALi was awesome. shankarAbaraNam was grand and much enjoyable. The kritis were all rendered with amazing clarity. The manodarma parts were all filled with classical phrases and handled so beautifully. Chaste music presented so well.

It was the day after Smt Kalpakam Swaminathan had left us. One was totally engrossed in sorrow and with each MD kriti rolling one after another, it was just not possible to keep oneself composed.

The concert was filled with gems of MD. The elaborations of mAyAmALavagauLa were good. The AlApanai of navarOj was very interesting to listen to. The main bhairavi was absolutely esoteric.

It was a wonderful concert. A very classical affair from the beginning and each piece rendered with a lot of punch of weight. Each piece was carefully chosen and rendered appropriately. The perfect beginning invoking Lord Vinayaka in srI rAgam was just the way it should have begun. With a quick dEvagAndhAri, the elaborate mAyAmALavagauLa was having the right measure of quick and leisurely phrases in an apt mix to fit the kriti that came.

srI nAtAdi guruguhO was rendered with elaborate round of neraval at 'mAdUrya gAnAmruta pAnO'. The quick fast paced sAranga with a few really catchy sangatis lead to the next elaborate piece.

kIravANi was given ample time and elaborate treatment. The AlApanai was very classical and soaked with rAga bhAvam. The kriti was rendered with elaborate neraval and svarams at 'vasudalO nIdu vara bhaktalaku'.

The nATTaikuranji was just tooo good. The AlApanai was stunning and rendered with the required punch albeit with the nuances of the rAgam kept intact all the way. The tanam was very nice as well. The pallavi was rendered well with elaborate neraval and svarams. The rAgamAlikA pAsuram had very classical rAgam chosen and rendered with a certain completeness that one feels only with such rAgams.

The accompanists were very good and played very appropriately for the concert. They kept themselves in the right proportion and also portrayed their responses in a equally enjoyable fashion as the main artist.

It was a very enjoyable and classical concert fitting to the rememberance of dilip.

A very nice concert. The songs were carefully selected and presented. A string of well chosen dEvi kritis for the occasion of navarathri were rendered with the traditional gait and vigour. The AlApanais of sAvEri, varALi and kharaharapriyA were all very elaborate and done with lot of classical phrases and enough innovation built-in. The neraval svaram parts were all beautiful too. The accompanists were very good and gave good support through the concert.

Overall a wonderful concert.

PS: the bEgaDa kriti sounded just like 'kaDaikkaN vaittennai ALammA' of Ramaswamy Sivan

The pallavi was rendered with varying speeds. Svarams were first sung in srI rAgam and then in all the 5 rAgams eventually finishing in a kOrvai set in Arabhi, varALi and srI rAgam.

The concert was good. The vocalists were both good in their own way. Ranjani's renditions were weightly and had some very beautiful phrases. Gayathri was banking more on the melody and voice modulations. Bhavani Prasad was very good and the veenai was handled very beautifully to give some divine music. Ramakrishnan was good and played well. Shankaranarayanan was very accomodative and played with good anticipation.

Both the vocalists were true to their styles and did full justice to their tradition and yet it gelled amazingly well. It was a treat to hear them both sing the first and last pieces together and the co-ordination during the viruttam was quite good also. In the individual parts, they were, needless-to-say, very good and quite weighty in rendering the kriti and with equally fitting AlApanai preceding and neraval, svarams to follow, it was indeed quite an evening. One only felt they could have sung a little longer. The accompanists were good and did well to play along for the songs.

The concert started with a beautiful slokam and a surprise with the maNirangu kriti to begin with, which was well rendered. The bEgaDa which followed was good with sparkling ciTTai svarams. The kIravANi AlApanai was good and the kriti which followed was well rendered with neraval at the pallavi line 'uruga vENDAmO rAmAvenRu'

The kEdAragauLa AlApanai which followed was done very well. The kriti was rendered beautifully with nice svarams alternatively at 'tuLasi bilva' and 'uramuna'. This was followed by brisk sArangA kriti. The mukhAri kriti was rendered with a lot of bhavam, wish there was some manOdarma element attached to it as well. The fast harikAmbhOji kriti, the lines of which i could enver catch and the rare dharmavati kriti led to the main course.

The sankarAbaraNam AlApanai was done in a very logical fashion. It was good to hear an elaborate sankarAbaraNam with all the essentialities like aesthetics, sowkyam and bhavam thrown in. The kriti was rendered very elegantly with beautiful neraval in trikAlam and svarams in the pallavi line 'bhakti biccamiyyavE bhAvukamagu sAttvika'.

The rAgamAlikA slOkam was good also. Smt Sumithra has quite a few of her guru's qualities, esp. in music. Her smooth gliding transitions from one ragam into another while singing slokams, viruttams and also the neraval in trikAlam are all rubber stamps of the Vedavalli school, which she also becoming a veteran at.

Dr Hemalatha was good all thro the concert, though she seemed to be a bit lost on one or two occasions. Sri Sivakumar did a decent job.
